VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL. A Volusia County couple was arrested after officers reported a teenager came to school Tuesday with cockroaches in his bag, police said.
Samantha Acker and Christopher Rounds were arrested for child neglect and police arrived at the family’s home to find it in disrepair, arrest records show.
When officers arrived at the home, they found no working air conditioner and said trash, old food, dirty dishes and clothing were strewn everywhere, covering the floor and most other surfaces in the living room and kitchen.
Deputies said the home was infested with cockroaches and other insects and observed the couple’s four children wearing dirty clothes.
When deputies first attempted to speak with Lowndes, he became verbally confrontational and became agitated by the presence of law enforcement, according to the affidavit.
Rounds eventually told deputies that the home was in poor condition due to financial problems. He was also charged with resisting arrest without violence. Four children were placed in temporary guardianship, deputies said.
